Biography/history |
In 1951 the Methodist Overseas Missions took over the administration of the Moore River Native Settlement and called the work ‘Mogumber Mission.’ In 1966 the name changed to Mogumber Methodist Training Centre and the work continued at Mogumber until 1970 when the first scatter cottage was opened in Perth. In 1974 all child care work was transferred from Mogumber and the country property handed back to the Aboriginal Lands Trust. The Mogumber Training Centre Perth Cottages were controlled by a Council until 1977, when the Methodist Church became part of the Uniting Church. At that time these cottages were controlled by a Management Committee accountable to the Board of Child and Family Care Services. These continued until the end of 1980. In 1981 the Agency amalgamated with Sister Kate’s Children’s Home to be known as ‘Sister Kate’s Child and Family Services.’ The site is 135 kilometres north of Perth and 11 kilometres west of Mogumber. |
