Biography/history Elizabeth Mary (“Giz”) Watson, born 1957, joined the Greens (WA) Party in 1990 and soon became co-convenor. She ran a building and construction company and in 1992 she became one of only three women to be registered as builders in WA. In 1997 Giz was elected to the Legislative Council as MLC for North Metropolitan region. Giz was the first openly lesbian parliamentarian in Australia and played a key role in lesbian and gay law reform in WA in 2002. She has campaigned on many issues including indigenous rights, social justice, and environmentalism and was inducted into the WA Women’s Hall of Fame in 2011.
