Summary
Book caption: Where sand overlies laterite, vegetation improves to a formation called ‘mixed kwongan’ dominated by species of Acacia, Casuarina and Melaleuca. With increased depth of sand, height of the vegetation improves further, in the western Wheatbelt to an open community dominated by Banksia spp. and Xylomelum angustifolium. In the drier interior one finds single-dominant stands of Acacia resinomarginea as seen here. It is a paradox that this community is taller and denser than the former in spite of the lower rainfall. On rabbit-proof fence north of Bonnie Rock.
