Summary Born in Wee Wee Rup, Victoria, in a farm which her grandfather bought in 1874. She won a scholarship to study at Presbyterian Ladies College in Melbourne and she studied Arts at the University of Melbourne and graduated with Honours 1924 and Masters of Arts and Diploma of Education and started as a teacher in 1926, French, Latin and English. She went on to University of Sorbonne in Paris to study French and returned to Melbourne in 1930. In 1933, she started teaching French part-time at the University of Western Australia. She gave speech training to students studying the diploma of education. She also took an interest in students' theatricals and plays.
