Biography/history	John Alexander Portman arrived in Australia in 1955 on the SS Oronsay. He worked on Aboriginal missions in Western Australia and was also employed as a draftsman by Tomlinson Steel in Perth in 1959 and by C.H. Warman, consulting engineer in Kalgoorlie in 1956 and 1957. He also produced a collection of photographs (see BA1774)
