Biography/history |
Keith Vincent Anderson and his mechanic Henry Smith Hitchcock died about 12 April 1929 in Central Australia after crashing their airplane Kookaburra while searching for Kingsford-Smith and the Southern Cross. Kingsford-Smith was rescued. |
Summary |
005582D shows Mrs J.W. Marshall alighting at Sydney having been flow from Perth by Charles Kingsford-Smith. (see http://www.edcoatescollection.com/ac1/austu/G-AUDK.html). The airplane is a Bristol Tourer G-AUDK. On 28 January 1927 two Bristol tourers G-AUDJ and G-AUDK left perth with Charles Kingsford Smith piloting Mr J. W. Marshall and his wife and Keith Anderson flying mechanic Robert Hitchcock in the other plane. They hoped to break the record for a trans Australia flight. They arrived in Sydney Monday 30 January too late to break the record. (see newspaper articles including the Daily News 28 Jan. 1927, p.2) |
