Biography/history First Labor premier of Western Australia. In 1901 he won the seat of Subiaco for Labor and became Parliamentary whip. In 1904 he became leader and first Labor premier. In August 1905 he resigned, leaving the Labor Party in protest against the caucus system. He retained his seat in subsequent elections until 1911, having moved to the Liberal Party and been made Minister for Works under Wilson. He then became an estate agent. The suburb of Daglish was named after him.
