Details

Notes Describes the experiences of Kathleen Ward during the 1 year she worked for Mills & Ware, in 1970. The article also gives a short historical background to the organisation. William Mills was born in Liverpool in 1866, migrating to Western Australia in the mid 1890's. He was a baker and opened a pastry shop in Cottesloe. Henry Ware, a friend of Mills, came to the goldfields in W.A. Due to ill health he moved to Perth, entering partnership with Mills to open the Swan Cake & Biscuit Company. In 1898 they moved to South Fremantle, becoming Mills & Ware. By the late 1950's and 1960's they expanded to become Arnott, Mills & Ware. When this article was written Mills & Ware had merged with Bovells & Regal Bakeries, becoming known as Australian Family Bakeries.
