Biography/history |
Arthur Charles Niquet Olden served in the 10th Light Horse Regiment in the First World War. On 1 October 1918, while leading a 3rd Light Horse Brigade vanguard, he arrived first to Damascus and formally accepted surrender of the city by way of a document now held by his grandson. Lawrence of Arabia arrived several hours after Olden who by that time had left the city. Arthur Charles Olden was a West Australian (born in Victoria but lived his adult life in WA) and served in a Western Australian regiment. He is the author of Westralian cavalry in the war : the story of the tenth Light Horse Regiment, A.I.F., in the Great War, 1914-1918. |
