Summary |
An album made by Alfred Hawes Stone which contains chiefly his photographs of people and places in Perth during the early 1860s. It contains one photograph dated 1859 which is of his father-in-law Thomas Helms' home Mona Cottage (6923B/60) and a few dated after 1864. Eight photographs by Stone's friend George Phillips also appear. He has captioned these with the note: G. Phillips fec. or G.P. fec. [ie fecit] meaning George Phillips made this. Stone has also pasted into his album photographs of Queen Victoria (4), Prince Albert (2), Florence Nightingale, an English actress, the Ambassador of Siam and son in London, and various scenes. The montage of men on the back page are unidentified. Most are briefly captioned in his hand but other hands can be detected throughout adding details. The album has been paginated 1-87, 90-102 (pp 88-89 do not appear to be missing but to have been inadvertently missed in the page numbering) A few of these photographs also appear in an album Stone made in 1868 for his daughter Fanny which has also been scanned and made available in this catalogue at 6909B. |
