Biography/history |
Western Australia's No. 1 Rabbit-Proof Fence, a wire mesh fence running from Starvation Boat Harbour, near Esperance, north some 1800 km to Eighty Mile Beach, near Port Hedland, was completed in 1907. It was constructed to keep out the imported rabbits which had reached plague proportions in eastern Australia. C.H. Menzel was a rabbit trapper and boundary rider for five years, 1925-1928 and 1931-1933. |
