Summary Up to ten-thousand protesters joined the rally. It took place at Langley Park, with a march up Victoria Avenue to St Georges Terrace and returning via Barrack Street and The Esplanade to Langley Park. The protest was the second Black Lives Matter rally called in solidarity following the death in the US of African American George Floyd after white Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin held his knee against Mr Floyd's neck during an arrest, and to protest Aboriginal deaths in custody. The three protests that took place in Perth over June and July were organised by a group of five young women of colour. The protests also sparked controversy due to the COVID-19 restrictions and the fear of the rallies being the possible catalysts for spreading the virus.
