Summary |
Letter written on a cigarette packet, signed "Julius of Talisker", to his sister, "Thel", includes typescript of the original letter. The letter was written during the Gallipoli Campaign and briefly describes an armistice to bury the dead Turkish soldiers, mentions the garden at Talisker and adjures his sister to take great care of their mother. |
SUMMARY |
Born in Portland, Victoria, the eighth child of Donald Norman MacLeod and Charlotte Harriett nee Bushell MacLeod. Enlisted in the 8th Battalion AIF at the outbreak of World War I, served in Gallipoli and France and returned to Australia in January 1918, making his home at Minilya Station, Carnarvon. |
