| Biography/history |
Rev. Lynch graduated from Trinity College, Dublin and came to WA in 1858 as an Anglican religious instructor on the ship Lord Raglan with his wife Margaret and two sons. Lynch recorded the names of the convict passengers on the voyage in a journal, with their age, birthplace, religion. In the Swan River Colony, Lynch assisted Bishop Hale with the establishment of the first boys college, later known as Hale School, and was appointed headmaster. A handwritten list of students who first attended the school is in ACC 1559A. He arrived at Gilgering with his family in early December, 1858, to become the inaugural rector of St Peters’ Church, Beverley (named Gilgering when the new St Mary’s Church, Beverley was established in 1892). The first divine service was celebrated in the church on 19 December 1858. Rev. Lynch served the Beverley district for 30 years. |
