Biography/history Marjorie M. Hetherington, nee Marjorie Mabel Tarling, was born in King's Norton, Worcestershire, England in 1904. She was an artist (painter) who arrived in Western Australia in 1911. Marj Tarling studied art at Claremont Teachers Training College and took instructions from instructors at UWA's fine art classes around 1929-1930. She also taught in Kalgoorlie. After her marriage to John Hetherington in the 1940s, she taught at the Presbyterian Ladies College. She exhibited with the Perth Society of Artists in the 1940s and 1950s. She was given a review exhibition at the Undercroft Gallery at University of Western Australia in 1986.
