Biography/history Emeritus Professor Sir Noel Stanley Bayliss (1906-1996) was an eminent Australian chemist whose name was given to the mineral baylissite and whose work on the free electron model in molecular spectroscopy enabled vital information about chemical compounds. Summary Sir Noel Bayliss talks about his mother and his early years in Melbourne and his tertiary education at Universities of Melbourne, Oxford and California, Berkeley. He also dwells on his academic career especially applying and getting the chair of chemistry at the age of 30 in 1938, his research, new building of the School of Chemistry at University of Western Australia, his thoughts on University of Hong Kong due to his appointment from 1966-1978 to the University and Polytech Grants Committee of Hong Kong.
