Summary Published caption: Bullboard, the three skills. Addition of pence, Standard 1. 2 blue balls. Multiplication of pence, Standard 2, 1 blue ball for pence, 1 yellow ball for multiplier. Multiplication of shillings and pence, Standard 3, 1 blue ball for pence, 1 red ball for shillings, 1 yellow ball for multiplier. Each player at the word 'Go' strikes any figure he desires and the first in the class with the correct answer wins the point.
Donor caption for BA1340/Era3/29B: ‘Bullboard’, the chief teaching tool for teaching mental arithmetic (numeracy) at the Mt Margaret School, 1930s, 1940s Multiplication of Pence, Standard 2. Blue balls = pence, yellow ball = multiplier. ie 8pence x 6 = 48 pence or 4 shillings. At the word ‘Go’, the two with sticks hit any number, and the first with the answer gets a point. Woobalee hits the pence, and Merle hits the multiplier. Tom Murray the adjudicator. 1935.

Margaret School, 1930s and 1940s Addition of Pence, Standard 1, (blue balls = pence) Sum: 4pence +3pence = 7pence. At the word ‘Go’ the two sith sticks hit any number, and the first with the answer gets a point. Merle Cable and Jean Jones do the sum for Gladys Vincent, monitor and adjudicator. 1935 [someone has written 1925 on the photograph]
