Biography/history |
During World War I, Sir Talbot Hobbs was initially given the command of the artillery of the 1st Division of the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F). After the expansion of A.I.F., he was given the command of the 5th Division shortly before being promoted to Major General on 1st January 1917. He was credited with the recapture of Villers-Bretonneux. He commanded the Australian Corps briefly in October 1918 and succeeded John Monash in command on 28 November 1918 as acting lieutenant. |

Contains notes of Sir Talbot Hobbs' tour to Australian cemeteries and war memorials in Egypt, Gallipoli, France and Belgium mainly during April 1930. It includes his observation of the cemeteries and their supervision, the condition of some tombstones and his points for consideration for maintenance. It also includes baggage lists and his account of baggages. |
