Biography/history Architect and town planning consultant. A founding member of the WA Town Planning Institute in 1950, she was Perth's first female town planner. She opened her own architecture and town planning practice after completing a Diploma in Town Planning in the UK. She introduced British postwar town planning concepts to WA and designed WA's first New Town (Kwinana). She was also a pioneer in heritage conservation techniques. Between 1959 and 1990 she identified some of WA's major heritage areas; helped to establish the WA National Trust; was an inaugural Commissioner of the Australian Heritage Commission and played an important role in setting up the Register of the National Estate; and as Chairman of the WA Town Planning Board she guided the introduction of heritage policy in local government planning schemes.
