| Biography/history |
Born in Auckland, New Zealand in 1923 and migrated to Western Australia in 1954. Pioneered the Cundeelee Mission School in the Western Desert. After obtaining his doctorate in 1972 he moved to the United States where he taught at several universities. A prolific writer, he also appeared on radio and television. He died in 2012. |

The papers include his autobiography (1991), biography of his father (1992) and family history; cash book kept while travelling through the US (1986-1989); cassettes; correspondence (1978-1999); diaries and journals (1950-2009); drafts of "Breaking the bonds", "Kava communion", "The nun may not know", "Everywhere at Cundeelee" (early draft containing material not found in later versions), "It happened at Cundeelee" (1996); files; newspaper cuttings; papers; photographs; poetry, including ms. of "Robbie's poetry 1972-2003"; publications containing articles by him; resumes; scripts for Radio 6KG Kalgoorlie (1957); survey of Cundeelee Aboriginal Camp (1977); thesis for Teachers Higher Certificate (1965) and Doctorate of Philosophy (1971), yearly journals. |
