Summary |
The sergeant on the left is wearing leather leggings, only worn by mounted troops, and has an artillery badge on his right sleeve (although it is not the Royal Australian Artillery insignia). The sergeant on the right is wearing puttees, issued to infantry. Since Rodriguez ( a 2nd Lieutenant when he was killed in action 20/3/1917) only served in the 23rd Infantry Battalion, the man on the left cannot be him. (Information supplied by J. Faithfull Jan. 2017) J.P. Rodriquez enlisted 1 June 1915 and embarked for France from Melbourne 23 April 1916. Another photograph of P.J. Rodriguez is available online at http://ww1lit.nsms.ox.ac.uk/ww1lit/gwa/document/8876/3290 |
