Biography/history Bishop Rosendo Salvado was born in Tuy, Spain in 1814. He joined a Benedictine monastery at 15. In 1846 he arrived in W.A. with a band of Catholic missionaries to set up a monastery at New Norcia. In 1854 he was administering the diocese of Perth in the absence of Bishop Serra.
