Biography/history |
Born in Perth. Educated at Claremont Teachers' College and University of Western Australia. Taught in schools until 1976. Studied music, became known as concert flautist and composer. Began writing for newspapers and published some books for children. After service in World War II, he returned to teaching and writing. Has many publications of children's stories, poetry and history. |

The papers include: 1. Biographical notes, 1982, 1984. 2. Manuscripts of his books, 1967-1978. 3. Book reviews, 1970-1984. 4. Papers assembled while researching "The Fate of the Artful Dodger: Parkhurst boys transported to Australia and New Zealand, 1842-1852" (1984). Includes lists of all 1499 juvenile offenders from Parkhurst Prison on the Isle of Wight who were transported, a nominal card file containing personal details, copies of correspondence (1842-1847), illustrations, reminiscences, reports and other research material. |
