This is the index to the Australian Joint Copying Project Prison Commission registers which cover some Prison Book records between 1816 and 1866 (available on 21 reels of microfilm). The Prison books are for the prisons: Millbank, Pentonville, Portland, Newgate and/or the hulks: Defence and Stirling Castle, York and Retribution. They include prisoner's name (and any aliases), reel number, piece number, age, place of conviction, dates of transfer from the prison or hulk to a different destination, which may be Western Australia, New South Wales, Tasmania, Victoria, Norfolk Island, another country, or any other place of prison in England. Deaths in prison or discharged are also given as the destination. |
