Story of New Norcia (90 miles from Perth), from its establishment in 1846 as an Aboriginal mission by Father Salvada, to its present day (1930), both as mission and township. Includes shots of township with horse drawn hay wagons and vintage cars; the Abbey interior; public church of Spanish design; sheep-dipping; Aboriginal stockmen; Aboriginal children; local flour mill; apiary showing honeycomb being removed; Aboriginal orphanages with children playing; brick making, showing horse driven "pug" mill; visitors' hostels; colleges (for white children); Father Anselm Catalan the then administrator of the mission. |
